Jobs for the Girls Academy

NICEIC is set to launch the next stage of its campaign – a Jobs for the Girls Academy.

The Academy will be a series of four sessions held over 2013/14 providing technical, business and industry advice which we believe will add value to your career. All for free!

It was clear from the networking meetings we held last year that getting a foot in the industry and gaining experience is still a barrier for many women.  So, in response NICEIC is setting up an academy to provide some industry based learning which will look great on your CV and enhance your career opportunities.

The Academy curriculum will cover:

Session one – Back to basics
Electrical principles and calculations
Protective devices
Safe isolation including HSE requirements
Session two  – BS 7671
Surge protection
Dispelling some myths
Regulations explained
Session three –  Future Technology
Wireless RF Technology
Electric vehicle charging
Session four – Certification
NICEIC Certificates explained
Minor installation works
Electrical Installation certificate
Electrical Installation Condition Report
New Part P requirement

The syllabus covers a wide range of subjects and is ideally suited to those who are just about to qualify or have just passed their level 3 qualification. However, the academy is open to anyone who feels they may benefit – including those already embarking on a career as an electrician.

The sessions will be led by NICEIC’s Tony Cable and Darren Staniforth with special guest speakers from the industry also coming along to support. In addition we will look to put on seminars around promoting your business and making the most of opportunities in the growing green sector.

The four, one-day sessions will take place on:

Sept 26th 2013

Jan 22th 2014

Apr 30th 2014

July 9th 2014

Sessions will start at 10am and finish at 4pm. Drinks, refreshments and lunch will be provided.  There is no cost to attend, but participants will have to pay their own travel and places are limited.

All attendees will receive a welcome pack containing a free ticket to NICEIC Live or Tech Talk, access to a free online course, discount vouchers for NICEIC Direct and a complete set of pocket guides.

If you are interested in attending, or would just like to find out a bit more, then email paul.s.collins@certsure.com  with your name, contact details and a little bit about your career to date.

Jobs for the Girls Networking Groups

Glaziers Hall We have held two sessions now – March 27th 2013 at the IET’s glamorous Savoy Place and September 27th 2012 we held an informal lunch and networking session at Glaziers Hall in London.

The sessions were hosted by NICEIC CEO Emma Clancy and featured industry legend Tony Cable (September) and Bronia Szcygiel from Aspire leadership (March).

We had a great mix of attendees at both events with a lot of new faces – a good mix of experienced, just starting out and apprentice electricians.
